Details: The Olympus DS-4000 (unlike the DS-3000) mounts as a removable drive in Windows. This can create a delay in actual deletion of audio files from the recorder. With the DS-3000, we train users that, once they hear "Download Complete," they may unplug the device. However, with removable drives and card readers, it can take up to 10 seconds for the audio file to actually be deleted after the call to Windows. This is a difference in how card readers and other removable media are treated over direct control with hardware-specific drivers (as with the DS-3000). Authors using DS-4000s may need to leave their recorders connected somewhat longer as a result to insure that the files are properly deleted by Windows.
