| Notice: Do not use drive letter mappings - use UNC naming instead. | ||||||||||
As a general rule for specifying destination or dictation folders when using Dataworxs products, use UNC naming rather than using drive letters. For example: Instead of: f:\AudioFiles\DrSmith use: \\myshare\AudioFiles\DrSmith Why? (1) Drive letters can change unexpectedly when removeable drives are attached or removed. (2) File Tranfer Server (FTS) cannot always access drive letters (other than local drive letters such as c:). For example, when the computer desktop is not logged in, services in Windows do not have access to drive mappings. (3) Using UNC naming allows for the "Use Local Copy" feature available with many of the Audioworxs client applications (such as Backup Manager and Player). Using the "Local Copy" feature provides improved file transfer speeds in a network environment where file encryption is not necessary (on a private LAN, for example). |
