Testing of Dataworxs products and required third-party accessories (such as footpedals) in the Windows Vista operating system continues to be on-going. Check back to this knowledgebase occasionally for updated information.

AUDIOWORXS

Test results using MySQL 5.0.16 indicate that Audioworxs client applications (such as Player) do generally run successfully in Vista. For example, Audioworxs Player using a VEC USB footpedal works without any issues when playing wave audio files. Playback of OKI ADPCM audio files (created by Call Manager / TR1000) requires Audioworxs Player 2.12.018 or versions 2.13.016+. DSS audio files are able to be imported by Import Manager and also play within Audioworxs Player.

Vista's enhanced security requires that default permissions be modified to allow appropriate permissions to Audioworxs applications on the "...Dataworxs Systems" folder. As well, individual applications may need to be given an enhanced privilege level by right clicking on the application, choosing Properties, and then enabling "Run this program as an administrator" feature in the Compatibility tab.

Before default licenses are installed and activation keys are applied, License Administrator should be configured to run as an administrator.

Dataworxs Service Manager will not work in Vista unless the "Run this program as an administrator" feature is enabled in the Compatibility tab in the program's Properties dialog.

PERSONAL COMPANION

Personal Companion has been tested with Olympus DS-3000, DS-4000 (treated as a removable drive) recorders, and Philips 9400/9600 recorders. Downloading, preview playback and updating units with the aforementioned recorder devices passed testing.

The following features passed testing in Vista:

  • DM1Service
  • Socket Transfer
  • SMTP E-Mail
  • File format selection/conversions
  • Integrated login
  • XML/TXT file creation
  • Input Field mapping
  • DSS file priority mapping
  • Time/date synchronization to supported devices

The following features did not pass testing in Vista:

  • "Download Complete" message. Note: The provided wave file, download.wav, is in a TrueSpeech format and TrueSpeech CODEC is not included with Vista. Re-recording download.wav in a supported format will allow the message to be played.
  • Playback volume level up/down
  • FTP Transfer

The Windows error message, "Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working" appears sporadically especially when interfacing with a Philips recorder. This message can be shut off by adding Personal Companion (AWCPC.exe) to the exception list in the DEP settings (Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings -> Data Execution Prevention).

AUDIOWAV MIC

AudioWav Mic has had extensive testing in Vista. The only feature of AudioWav Mic that failed testing is the Sanyo footpedal support. Support for the Sanyo footpedal in Vista will not be provided.

The following hardware devices were tested and passed:

  • VEC footpedal
  • VIS station; VIS and VIS footpedal; VIS and external microphone; VIS and VIS footpedal and external microphone
  • Philips 6264 SpeechMike; Philips 5272 SpeechMike*
  • Olympus DR-2000

The following features have been tested and passed:

  • socket transfer
  • SMTP e-mail; Outlook e-mail
  • file format selection
  • VIS options
  • integrated login
  • recording level meter
  • 5272 software interface
  • Olympus Direct Configuration tool

* The integrated Philips Driver Setup (v2.3) failed to install completely unless .NET 1 and .NET SP1 were installed manully. Once installed, the driver worked for both the Philips 6264 and 5272 USB microphones.

AUDIOWAV PLAYER

AudioWav Player has been tested with Olympus DS-3000, DS-4000 (treated as a removable drive) recorders, and Philips 9400/9600 recorders. Downloading, preview playback and updating units with the aforementioned recorder devices passed testing.

VEC and Sanyo footpedals were successfully used.

The following features passed testing in Vista:

  • DM1Service
  • SMTP/Outlook e-mail
  • File format selection/conversions
  • XML file creation
  • Input Field mapping
  • DSS file priority mapping
  • Preview playback
  • Time/date synchronization to supported devices

The following feature did not pass testing in Vista:

  • Playback volume level up/down

The Windows error message, "Windows host process (Rundll32) has stopped working" appears sporadically especially when interfacing with a Philips recorder. This message can be shut off by adding AudioWav Player (AudioWav Player.exe) to the exception list in the DEP settings (Control Panel -> System -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings -> Data Execution Prevention).
