Dataworxs applications such as AudioWav Player and Personal Companion use a companion utility called the Dataworxs Olympus Device Detector to detect when an Olympus recorder, such as the DS-5000, is connected and disconnected from your computer.
If you connect an Olympus device to your computer and it is not detected check the following and provide the information to Dataworxs support if the problem is still not solved:
- When connected, does the device show in Windows Explorer as a removable drive? If not, try another USB port and/or a different connection cable.
- Is it a supported device? (DS-5000/5000ID/4000/2, also DS-2300/2400/3300/3400)
- Does the computer have Microsoft .Net 2 installed?
- Does the file ...\Program Files\Common Files\Olympus Shared\DeviceManagerolydvrsv.exe exists? What version is it? (It should be at least 1.5.0.0.)
- Is the Dataworxs Olympus Device Detector running? It will appear as a blue Dataworxs logo in the system tray. Is it in your Startup group?
- Is the service Olympus DVR Service installed and started? It should start automatically when the Olympus Device Detector is running and a supported device is connected to the computer for the first time.
- Double click the Dataworxs Olympus Device Detector icon in the system tray to bring up the main window. Watch the window as you connect and then disconnect the Olympus digital recorder from a USB port. Does the device and user ID show when it is connected?
Before contacting Dataworxs support you should also try to re-install the Dataworxs Olympus Device Detector and then check the items listed above a second time. You will find the installer in the ...\Program Files\Dataworxs Systems\Utilities folder.
